Elinore was born to John & Elinor Daley of Stoneham Massachusetts, and later moved from Stoneham to Springfield Mass in 1937. She studied piano between ages 8 to 16, and then voice between years 16 to 36. Graduated from Classical High School in Springfield in 1945. While in school, she developed an interest in current affairs and politics. She became an admirer of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt as a teenager during World War II. Soon after school, she met Ralph Herne and they married on November 17th 1946. Together they had three children ~ James, Janet (Neumann) while living in Springfield, and then John after moving to Wilbraham Mass in 1953. New employment for Ralph precipitated a move to Williamstown Mass in 1960. They settled into a community they loved where they resided for nearly 50 years. In 2009, they moved to California in their final years. While in Williamstown, Elinore was most notably employed by Williams College where she worked in the Admissions office from 1969 until her retirement in 1989. She and Ralph were active members of First Congregational Church. She served as a volunteer worker for both the Council on Aging and League of Women Voters. In here retirement years, she managed Williamstown Chamber of Commerce and its information booth for 20 years. Her Chamber of Commerce work earned her a special award of “recognition” from then Governor Argeo Paul Cellucci in April 2000. She lived 92 years, 93 days and will be cremated and buried in the Williamstown, East Lawn Cemetery alongside her beloved husband Ralph.
