Ruth Else Elizabeth Vienola peacefully, entered rest on September 1, 2019. She was 92. Ruth was born as the 10th child of Emanuel and Elsie Koski in Olney, Oregon on May 21, 1927. She married Oscar Vienola on September 19, 1943 at a Finnish Congregational Church in Astoria, Oregon. Oscar was a commercial fisherman for many years; fishing from Alaska to Mexico. Ruth went fishing with him and learned how to be a good fisherman. They moved from Alaska to California in 1954.
Ruth enjoyed R.V camping, trout fishing, bingo, bunco, and traveling with Dad. She was an amazing mother and homemaker, who enjoyed her hobbies; making quilts, crocheting, knitting and embroidering. Ruth had fun entering her creations in the Santa Cruz County Fair, the last 2 years, with her crocheted afghans and embroidery. She was very excited to receive her ribbons.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Ann Ernst (Jerry), Betty Rosser, 10 grandkids, 8 great-grand kids, and 2 great-great grandkids, as well as numerous family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Oscar Vienola and her son Ron Vienola.
A celebration of life will be held at the Heritage Hall (Santa Cruz County Fair) on October 19, 2019 from 1pm- 5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
