Alfonso Iñiguez Oropeza died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 27, 2020. He was 74 years old. He was born on May 22, 1946 in Cañadas de Obregon, Jalisco, Mexico.
He migrated to the United States in 1961 at the age of 15. He attended U.C. Berkeley where he received his master’s degree in Bilingual Education Administration. After that, he worked at Lake Tahoe Unified School District. He came to Watsonville in 1984 and worked for North Monterey County School District until his retirement in 2003. Alfonso enjoyed helping migrant students throughout his career in education.
He loved being out in nature, bird watching, swimming, reading, writing poetry, taking care of his many pets, and listening to music but his favorite thing was going with his family to the beaches in Mexico during the summers. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Alfonso is survived by his loving wife of 30 years; Rosario Iñiguez, his son; Roberto (April) Iñiguez, his daughter; Alondra Iñiguez, and 7 siblings. He was preceded in death by his son; Martin Iñiguez.
