Cheryl Carey Dow passed away on December 6, 2020, at the age of 77.
She was born in Modesto, California, the fourth of five children to parents Walter and Zina Carey. She moved to San Jose, CA, to go to college, work, and eventually met her future husband Raymond (Ray) Dow at the apartment complex where she lived. Cheryl and Ray married in January 1966. They would spend weekends driving to the Central Valley to visit their families. Eventually, they moved to Soquel, CA, to raise their own family.
Cheryl worked as a teacher’s aide for the second grade at the nearby Mountain School for several years. Her next work home was at Senior Network Services in the Employment Department – finding joy connecting seniors in need with individuals who could help them with everyday tasks.
In addition to road trips with Ray, being outdoors, talking to her sisters, she also enjoyed connecting with her neighbors – some she had known for 40+ years. Cheryl also enjoyed doting on her grandchildren whenever she could.
Cheryl was preceded in death by, husband of 50 years, Ray in May 2016. She leaves behind her sister Jeannine Beach of Anaheim, CA, sister Alison Osborne of Meridian, ID, son Grant (wife Monique) Dow of Royal Oaks, CA, daughter Carey (husband Kevin) Hart of Beaverton, OR, 3 grandchildren Nathaniel, Gabriella, and Bethany, and step-granddaughter Emma.
She will be missed terribly.
“She was a great grandma!” – Bethany (age 6)
