Obituary

Clara Rodriguez grew up in Nayarit, Mexico in a region heavily populated by the Huichol nation. She carried her native roots as a strong and resilient matriarch. Her connection to the land was reflected in her cultural foods. In the 1970’s, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Watsonville, California. She worked several jobs, which included laboring in the raspberry fields and, also as a teacher’s aide in elementary schools. Clara is remembered by her family as a strong person with a good sense of humor. She is survived by her children Eleazar, Florentina and Genaro as well as 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The creator has now reunited Clara with her deceased husband Melecio, daughter Teresita, son Javier, and all her ancestors.

Clara Rodríguez nació y creció en Nayarit, México, en una región poblada por la nación huichol. Sus raíces indígenas la convirtieron en una mujer fuerte y resistente. Su conexión con la madre tierra se reflejó en sus alimentos culturales. En los años 70, emigró a los Estados Unidos y se estableció en Watsonville, California. Trabajó en varios empleos, entre ellos en los campos de frambuesas y también como ayudante en una escuela primaria. Clara es recordada por su familia como una persona fuerte y con buen sentido del humor. Le sobreviven sus hijos Eleazar, Florentina y Genaro, así como 11 nietos y 19 bisnietos. El creador ha reunido a Clara con su difunto marido Melecio, su hija Teresita y su hijo Javier y con todos sus antepasados.
