Hilda M. Hernandez, our beloved Lovie, Grammies, Hildie, Grams and GG passed away unexpectedly on March 25th, 2021. The hole she left in our family is as big as her personality. She was vivacious and full of spunk, and you could count on her for quick comebacks and an honest opinion. She knew how to fill up the room, with her light and spirit. Every birthday and every holiday, won’t be the same without her. She would make it a point to call you to sing happy birthday, whether you picked up or not, to make you feel special and loved, that was just her way.
Holidays and special occasions at her home were always filled with homemade food, games and laughter. Everyone will miss her Thanksgiving stuffing and tortillas. In her spare time, you could find her crocheting doilies for her coffee table or shelves, solving the latest crossword puzzle, caring for her plants, especially her beloved “lluvia”. From 7 to 8pm, don’t even think about bothering her during her novela time. After her appointments, she loved going for a drive with her “Sweetheart” Diana to Castroville for a burger and a strawberry milkshake from The Patio and made sure to stop by the liquor store, for a lottery ticket before heading home. When she was still able, she loved going shopping with her “Pancha” Sonia and she loved reminiscing with her grandchildren about life at the ranch and running off to marry the love of her life, when she was 21 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband Emilio P. Hernandez, her eldest daughter Maria H. Rodriguez, and her only son Emilio R.Hernandez “Jr”. She leaves behind her two daughter’s Andrea “Diana” Hernandez and Sonia Hernandez, her grandchildren Eva Cobos, Emily Cobos, Manuel Rodgriguez, Emilio Rodriguez, Kaleena Rodriguez, Branden Rodriguez, Mariah Gutierrez and great grandson Dimitri N. Martinez and numerous nieces and nephews. We are comforted knowing that she is now in heaven, driving around in her grey Chevy Cavalier with her Garfield stuffed animals, talking chisme and shopping with her daughter Maria, playing cards and getting spoiled with roses, from her Panchito “Jr” and finally getting some “smooches” from her beloved husband Emilio Sr. Burial for her final resting place will take place on Friday, April 23th 2021 at 1pm at Valley Public Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome. Masks are required. Mehl's is NOT involved at Graveside.
