Hortencia Andrade was born in Jose Maria Morelos in Michoacan, Mexico to parents Amalia Ayala and Lucio Trejo. She immigrated to the US with her family as a teenager and was a farmworker for many years until she got married in 1975.
Hortencia raised her four children while pursuing her GED. She worked for the school district as a Parent Advocate and was involved with the Migrant Parent Program where she advocated for migrant families. She also ran a daycare from home and proudly cared for each child as one of her own. Hortencia enjoyed life and loved spending time with her husband and children, gardening, cooking, taking walks on the beach but she was happiest when she was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband; Anastacio Andrade, children; Jose Andrade, Hortencia Acosta (David Acosta), Cindy Andrade (Tramayne Watson), Erendira Andrade (Lupe Monroy), her grandchildren; Isabel, Lily, Andres, Evelyn, Krystal and Elena, her siblings; Aurora Garcia and Carlos Trejo.
