Rev. Jesus Gutierrez, died on December 17, 2020 in Watsonville, CA. He was born in Chietla, Puebla, Mexico.
As a young adult he moved to Mexico City. After various jobs as a bodyguard and store manager, Jesus decided to come to the United States. He lived in New York City and shortly after, moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a welder. There he found a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and felt the calling to become a minister.
He moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he studied at and graduated from Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary. His first pastoral ministry was in Stockdale, Texas. He continued his ministry at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Victoria, Texas. After several years of service, the Southern Baptist Convention called him to start up a church in Yuba City, CA. After a few years of service, he moved to Delano, CA to build up another church. He continued his ministry here in Watsonville, rebuilding a church after the 1989 earthquake.
After over 30 years of ministry, he retired as Pastor of Iglesia Bautista on Arthur Road. He enjoyed volunteering in the community, fishing, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Rev. Gutierrez is survived by his wife of 45 years, Esperanza Gutierrez, his daughters; Maricela Cardenas and Jenny Gonzalez. He also leaves behind his brother, Fructoso Gutierrez Armilla and 4 grandchildren.
