Obituary

John Garcia Luiz passed away peacefully at Watsonville Community Hospital on Tuesday, January 4,
2022, surrounded by his family. He was 96 years old.

John was born October 13, 1925 in Casas, Pico, Açores to Jose and Ursula Luiz. He immigrated to the
U.S. in 1962 with his wife and son and settled in Watsonville, CA. In 1967 he achieved his American
dream of becoming an American Citizen. In 1972 he became the proud father to a daughter. He worked
as a mechanic at Mt. Madonna Apple Juice Co. and later retired from Pacific Extrusions.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going to Festas, dancing and many trips to
the Azores. He was an avid (sueca) card player, gardener, he even grew his own tobacco which he
enjoyed smoking. He was a member of I.S.T.W, a Director of CPNSF of Watsonville and a parishioner
of St. Patrick’s Church.

John is survived by his wife Ester Luiz of 66 years, his son Tony Luiz (Lina) and daughter Diana
Carrillo (Alfonso), his grandchildren Steven, Meghan, Brandon, Makayla, Preston, Lucas, 4
great-grandchildren, as well as god children, nieces, nephews & cousins. John was preceded in death
by his parents Jose and Ursula Luiz and his sister Maria da Boa Nova.

Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville, Ca. On Friday January 14, 2022.
Visitation to begin at 12pm, Rosary at 12:30 pm, Mass at 1pm, Internment immediately following at Watsonville Catholic Cemetery.

Due to Covid-19 and to honor John's wishes, a reception will not be held following services. Facial coverings and social distancing are required.
