Jose Pinto passed on the morning of February 3rd, 2021 in his bed in Royal Oaks, California. He was born in Sinanche, Yucatan, Mexico on July 20, 1934.
In the 1960s, he moved to Watsonville, Ca with his wife Esther Pinto and his only child Jardiel Pinto with the hope to build a better life for them and his future family in the United States. He was married to the love of his life Esther for 57 years. In those many years together, they worked side by side as farmworkers and were active in the Farmworker’s Union, protesting alongside Cesar Chavez in Sacramento and opening their home for protest sign making for farmworkers rights. This is a part of history that Jose was very proud to be a part of and often told stories about to his grandchildren.
In 1984, Jose became a grandpa for the first time and from that moment he dedicated himself to being the best grandpa he could be. He eventually had four grandkids in total and happily spent every day raising them with his wife, while his son and his daughter-in-law worked full time. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
His favorite hobbies were reading, gardening, listening to music, dancing, crossword puzzles/word searches, and spending time with his family. During his many years in Watsonville, he spent every day in his garden often listening to Blondie on his Walkman and singing. He said the music helped the plants grow and he must have been right because it was a beautiful garden filled with all of his wife’s favorite flowers. He always made sure that she had fresh flowers in a vase on their table. His wife was the center of his universe. They barely spent moments apart during their 57 years together. They often had the same doctor and went in together at the same time for their doctor appointments. when the doctor would walk in to check their vitals, he would always have them check Esther first. When the doctor would get to him and say it was his turn to get his heart checked he would hold Esther’s hand and say, “But you already checked my heart, she is right here”. His love for his wife and his family was very strong and there was nothing in the world more important to him than his family.
Jose is survived by his brother Miguel Pinto and sisters; Fedelina Aguilar, Rosa Cervantes, Selmy Alvarez, and 4 grandchildren; Kimberly Pinto, Christy Soler, Jardiel Pinto Jr., Jordan Pinto, and many nieces and nephews.
Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
