Josefa F. Ortiz, a longtime resident of Watsonville, passed away on April 17, 2020 at the age of 92. She was born on Sept. 16, 1927 in Francisco J. Mujica, Michoacan, Mexico to parents Porfirio Fernandez and Concepcion Magaña.
Josefa came to the US in 1966 and settled in Watsonville where together with her late husband, Salvador Ortiz, they raised their family. Josefa loved listening to music, working on her flower garden, and sewing clothes but her favorite pastimes were cooking delicious meals and spending time with her large and loving family. She also worked for many years in the fields, mainly picking strawberries.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Salvador Ortiz, as well as 2 of her children; Jildardo and Angelita. She is survived by her children; Maria, Salvador, Francisco, Bertha, Jose, and Maria de Jesus “Chuche” Ortiz, as well as 2 sisters and 1 brother. She also leaves behind 38 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 10 great great-granchildren.
Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, no public services will be held.
