Joseph Harold Whalen died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 18, 2021. He was 97 years old.
Mr. Whalen was a veteran of WW11 assigned to the 825th tank destroyer battalion where he earned the American campaign medal, WW11 Victory medal, and a medal of good conduct. After military service, he joined Southern Pacific Railroad where he was a Switchman for 40 years and after retirement, he stayed active driving the school bus for Pajaro Valley School District and later working at Second Harvest Food Bank. Harold was an active reader, loved his family, music, a good meal, being outdoors, and football, his favorite team, the 49ers. Harold was a very kind, loving generous loving man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Joseph Harold Whalen is survived by his daughters, Theresa Whalen and Cynthia Keeler; one grandson Joseph Keeler and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Whalen and grandson Christopher Keeler.
Graveside service will be held on February 1, 2021, Monday at 1 pm at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
