Lou Cocroft passed away peacefully on September 4, 2021, after a long illness. Born in Cruger, Mississippi on September 11, 1931. He was 89 years old. He confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, and was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Watsonville, California
As a young man, Lou worked as a long shoreman in Panama City, and a carpet cleaner at Brookley Air Force base in Mobile, Alabama. Lou had one daughter, Joycelyn Toledo. In 1957 Lou married Gwendolyn Dockery, and to that union they had five children, 3 boys and 2 girls.
In 1965 he trailblazed his way to California working the migrant farming season from Texas to California. He settled in Watsonville, California a place he called “paradise”. His wife and children soon joined him. His hopes and dreams of starting a carpet cleaning business came to fruition in 1970 he started Lou’s Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners -- that he owned and operated for 50 years. Lou was active in the community, supporting youth sports teams, and fundraising for The Watsonville Band. He loved watching sports on Sundays and hosting gatherings for family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Gwendolyn Cocroft, a daughter, Joycelyn Toledo, one sister Ruth Williams, and two brothers, Anton Cocroft and Dewitt Coleman. He is survived by his children, who will mourn his death and to cherish his memories: Gary Croft, Melina (Kurt) Johnson, Sherman (Lisa) Cocroft, Anthony Cocroft, and Angela Cocroft. Seven grandchildren: Amber, Lauren, Nick, Quinn, Nakiyan, Akoa and Nima, and five great-grandchildren: Nino, Charlotte, Nico, Taylor, Emitte, and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and dear friends.

Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church 175 Lawrence Avenue in Watsonville on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, from 5pm to 8pm.
