Margaret Rossi passed away on January 3, 2021, at the age of 93 after a short illness, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born to Victor and Alvira Vaninetti on May 13, 1927, in San Jose, California. Margaret attended local schools in Hollister and moved to Santa Cruz as a young adult to work for Battistini Insurance. In Santa Cruz is where she met her husband Marino. They married in 1952 at the Carmel Mission. Margaret worked many jobs throughout her lifetime from Stokely Van Camps working at night to bookkeeper for Kelly Moore Paint and then the County of Santa Cruz before her retirement.
Margaret always desired to live in the mountains and she and Marino moved to Magalia in 1990 prior to building their home in Paradise a few years later. Margaret loved her time in Paradise where she and Marino were active members of the Elks Lodge, the Italian Catholic Federation, and Son’s of Italy, along with being a red hat lady. She had many friends who came to her home for many dinners and of course wine from Marino’s wine cellar since she loved cooking, entertaining and playing cards with Marino and friends. Both she and Marino enjoyed their time in Paradise. She also enjoyed traveling. She and Marino traveled to Italy where they visited with family, cruised to Alaska, and made many trips to Reno for Festa Italiano. After Marino’s passing, she moved back to Santa Cruz County in 2015 where she lived at Valley Heights in Watsonville, until a couple of months ago.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Marino who passed in 2013, her parents and sister Lillian Fortino. She is survived by her children Marsha (Joe) Marsano, Mark (Linda) Rossi, and Marla (Kevin) Meek. She was so happy to be Noni to her 5 grandchildren, Joseph, Gary, Bryan, Amanda, and Stefan. She was also delighted to be Noni to her 3 great-grandsons David, Micah, and Leo along with many extended family members.
Because of Covid-19 restrictions, the service will be private. Margaret will be interned at Holy Cross Cemetery. Mehl's Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice.
