Maria Kekai Barrientos, 89, of Knoxville, TN, ended her battle with Alzheimer’s on July 13, 2021, surrounded by her family.
Maria was born December 23, 1931, in Honokaa, Hawaii to Andres Quartero and Sarah Kekai. Maria was a Pearl Harbor survivor who was proud of her Hawaiian culture. She found great joy in Hula dancing and teaching others about her Hawaiian heritage. Throughout her life, she worked various jobs to include agricultural work and elderly health care. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who found her greatest joy spending time with her family. She was a gold star mother and a three-time blue star mother.
Maria is survived by her five children: Mario (Laura) Ramos, Benedict Ramos, Tino Ramos, Jaime (Beverly) Ramos, and Leilani (CJ) Branner. She had 19 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren that she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her son Bernardo Kealoha Ramos (killed in action in Vietnam), and husbands Bernardo Ramos Sr., and Peter Barrientos.
A graveside service and burial will be held at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park in Watsonville, California on Saturday, August 7th at 10 a.m.
