Robert Alan Mitchell, age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home in Aromas, California on Tuesday evening, July 20, 2021. Alan was born on May 8, 1943, to Robert and Betty Mitchell at Merced's Mercy Hospital.
Alan grew up in Livingston, California, attended Livingston High School and was All-Conference Quarterback. He graduated at Livingston High School and lettered in baseball and football his senior year in 1961. Alan served his Country and competed in wrestling in the Army from June 9, 1966, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma until he was honorably discharged in June of 1968. After the Army, Alan attended Cal Poly University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with a major in Fruit Production in 1969. In 1970 he worked at FMC Chemicals, in 1973 he worked for Salinas Ag Chemical and in 1977 he worked for Vanni Nursery. In 1979 he and John Furman co-founded California Pajarosa, a company that produced and sold a wide variety of fresh cut flowers for over 40 years and became one of the largest rose-growing businesses in the United States.
During his free time, Alan enjoyed coaching his sons’ soccer and baseball teams, hauling his daughter and her horse all over the state of California, Reno, and Wyoming to barrel races and rodeos, cheering for his children and grandchildren during sporting events, loving his pets, serving the Aromas Fire Board as a Commissioner for over 20 years, taking his RV out on camping trips with his family and rooting for his two favorite Bay Area teams until the day he passed; the 49ers and the Giants.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly Mitchell, his children; Scott (Jennifer) Mitchell, Daniel (Catherine) Mitchell and Alison (John) DeCarli, his grandchildren; Haley, Brodie, Gavin, and Madison Mitchell, and Braden, and Clayton DeCarli. He also leaves behind his sister Judie Peabody, and his long-time High School friend Jim Clarot. Alan, your sense of humor, stand up personality, determination and love will be greatly missed by those who were lucky enough to meet you.
