Rosa Pereira passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones, on June 19, 2022. She was 96. Rosa was born in the Azores on December 11, 1925 to Joao Avelar and Maria Goncalves. Growing up in the Azores, Rosa was known to care for those around her, from performing nursing skills for her community, to being a seamstress for her family. In 1949, Rosa married her husband Fernando Pereira (52 years), and they raised their two children. In 1966, she and her family moved to the United States, to fulfill their family dream to have a better life and be near relatives. Rosa and her family established in Watsonville in 1971. She was a homemaker, who cared for her children. She became a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, where she participated in numerous Portuguese events.
From her contributions to many fundraising events, (she was known for donating over 50 hand-made quilts), fundraisers for the Salesian Sister Schools, St. Francis School, I.S.T.W of Watsonville, and the Holy Ghost Celebrations; Rosa was considered to be a generous person who always put others first. She had a green thumb when it came to gardening and was also a caregiver to people that needed her. Rosa enjoyed crocheting, cooking, reading, poetry, and spending time with her family. She always had an open door to loved ones, and her grandchildren were the most precious to her. Rosa enjoyed hearing her talented, son-in-law’s play music and always took the time to enjoy the present moment.
