Satoshi Hirahara passed away on December 3, 2020; he was 85.
He worked in the semiconductor industry prior to joining his brothers, on the family farm on Beach Road, and retired after 25 years. He was employed at UCSC, working the campus grounds, and retired after 10 years.
He was always happiest outdoors. He had a passion for gardening, growing vegetables, tending the yard. And he loved animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed most sports, but his favorite team was the Golden State Warriors, followed by the Giants and 49ers. But his all-time favorite local team was the Aptos High Mariners freshman baseball team, with grandson Colin Hirahara. He was always searching for the best deals, shopping, during his daily walks. He was a kind and gentle soul towards those he loved.
Satoshi is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years; Jean, sons; Steve, David, and Doug (Lisa), and grandson Colin. He is also survived by brother Ben, and sisters; Eiko and Yoshiko Nishihara, Wakako Tanikawa, Akiko Nagai, Masako Matano, and Emiko Hirano, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Mitoshi and Teyo Hirahara, brothers; Fumio, Katsuji, Noboru, and Tommy, and sister Sumako Abey.
To honor Satoshi’s service in the US Army, local musician and family friend David Craigmile of Aptos will perform taps at his burial. A private service to be held at a later date.
