Sergio Imircio Carvalho passed away on Feb. 3, 2020. He was 75. Sergio was born on Dec. 27, 1944, in the Azores. Sergio left the Azores in 1969, after serving 3 years in the Portuguese Military, and moved to Watsonville.
Sergio reconnected with a family friend and neighbor, Maria Celeste Santos, after moving to Watsonville. They were married in 1970 and were considered the first Portuguese immigrants to be married in Watsonville. Together, they raised 2 sons. Sergio worked for Neganine Nursery, Colshire, and then E.F Brady Co., for 20 years. After retirement, he and Maria Celeste vacationed, and even restored the family home, in the Azores.
Sergio enjoyed fishing, gardening, pruning, and loved his cows. He was a winemaker, raised a variety of animals, and was a family man. Sergio was always happy, he was a jokester and a very social person. He loved to invite people to share his wine and traditional Portuguese meals.
Sergio is preceded in death by his parents Manuel Blayer Carvalho and Serafina Pereira, and 1 brother; Joe Carvalho. He is survived by his wife Maria Celeste Carvalho, 3 brothers; David, Manuel, and Anatolio Carvalho, 2 sons; Daniel Sergio Carvalho (Chrissy Job) and Brian Santos Carvalho, and 2 grand-daughters.
Services were held on February 7, 2020, at 10 am at Valley Church. Burial services were rendered at Valley Public Cemetery.
