Simplicio E. Magno

November 21, 1926 ~ July 14, 2022 (age 95)


Simplicio E. Magno, “Sam” passed away July 14th, 2022, after living a long well lived life. Sam was born November 21, 1926, in La Torre, Bayombong Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. 

Following the end of WWII, Sam immigrated to Hawaii to work in the pineapple fields before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He was stationed in Korea, Okinawa, Philippines, and Camp Pendleton Ca. He served two tours in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart for injuries, and receiving the Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service in the battlefield. He retired from active/reserve duty in 1982, moving to Watsonville to grow strawberries for Driscoll’s and finally retiring from Driscoll’s in 1997. 

Sam is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Maria Quiambao Magno who passed in 2010. He is survived by three children, Emily, Rudy, and Danny and their spouses. Seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a sister in the Philippines and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless loved ones. 

A public viewing is scheduled for August 4th from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 East Lake Ave., Watsonville Ca., followed by a private burial.
